I am off school the entire month of January, which gives me time to do all sorts of fun activities. One of my favorites is to explore every possible food item on earth. I have a few additions.
| Erin's mushroom-something pasta. |
| Wild boar sausage ravioli. |
This was our New Year's Eve dinner. We had hoped to go to Times Square, but it was full before our plane landed. Next year we'll have to be in place by 1:30pm at the latest.
Now for the more fun items.
| Lobster roll! |
I may have previously raved about lobster rolls when I first arrived here. I will continue to. They are way too expensive and not that filling, but it's still a sandwich of lobster! This was only my second one since moving here due to the price, but it's always a fun treat.
| Late night slice. |
Here is a classic example of New York pizza. It's not the famous pizza tourists eat. It's the average pizza served after midnight all throughout the city. The pizza slice was $1.50. I don't want to know why it was priced so low. I saw a movie after the lobster roll and ate this after I got out. Notice I went for the diet root beer this time.
| Japanese curry! Pork katsu, chicken katsu, sausage, shrimp, egg, rice, salad, curry! |
This is something I haven't had since Tokyo. I didn't even know they served it outside Japan. This is from a Japanese chain that has two locations in the US, both in New York. Next time I'll opt for less food, but I wanted to try all the options and find out what was best. Pork wins.
| Final bite of potato empanada. |
We were too hungry to take pictures before devouring our empanadas in SoHo. Apparently potato is the way to go according to Erin. I went for the Argentinian sausage. It was oddly familiar because of an empanada place back in Irving, TX.
This ends the 5-day food tour. I have a feeling this month will have many fun food updates from New York's most exciting restaurants. I even bought an unlimited metro card so I could go anywhere in the city to get the best food for January.
